Graham W Smith Acrylic Painting Art Workshop was held on Sat 27, Sun 28 April 2013 at Elizabeth Guzsely Gallery - made possible thanks to Cooktown School of Art Society Inc members and part funding from Cook Shire RADF of $1,450.00.
Workshop pics can be viewed on Cooktown Art Facebook
Workshop was attended by 9 locals with some new to acrylic painting. The size of the class allowed for everyone to ask questions and have individual instruction from Graham.
Saturday we followed a painting demonstration by Graham and did the same subject of an old shed using the same techniques. On Sunday we painted own subject from a reference photo under Graham's guidance.
Over the week-end Graham had lucky draws for a completed painting of the old shed for one lucky winner and also did 4 mini demonstrations of 4 participants chosen subject for them to keep and 4 draws to win a quality mini canvas.
On Sunday morning to get the creation happening he did a 20 minute seascape using a palette knife that is amazing!
At the end of each day we got together for a critique to learn from each others work to see what we had liked or not liked about our work. At the end of the week-end Graham donated his painting of the hut - number 2461 - to the Cooktown School of Art Society Inc to raffle or sell to raise money. This is very generous and much appreciated.
Participants enjoyed the workshop and worked very hard trying all techniques, arranging compositional shapes, tonal values - dark's and lights, mixing pigments, keeping work loose and finishing off. Phew our brains sure had a workout!
