35th Annual Art Exhibition 2013
Our Annual Art Exhibition is our major event of the year. It coincides with Cooktown's Discovery Festival held the first week of June. In 2013 we hold our 35th Annual Art Exhibition and celebrated the 25th birthday of the Elizabeth Guzsely Gallery.Entry Forms due . . . . .

Art Judge -Ludij Peden of Yungaburra
In recent years, Ludij has won more than 30 awards in recognised art competitions. As well, since the early 70s, she has had many solo exhibitions in Darwin, Brisbane and Cairns, and has shown in many small group exhibitions throughout Australia. Ludij has now sold her gallery and works from her home in idyllic Yungaburra, Far North Queensland and continues to paint and sell prints from her home.

Art Award Categories
Please read the entry form and new conditions of entry thoroughly to avoid disappointment as prize monies will be determined by sponsorship received, amounts have not been listed. They will not be less than previous exhibitions. A complete listing will be available prior to entry form cut off date.
Elizabeth Guzsely Memorial Award - ‘Best In Show”
No prize money will be awarded for the Best in Show however, a perpetual trophy and certificate of acknowledgement will be awarded to the artwork selected by the judge as the finest, most outstanding artwork entered in the exhibition. Non acquisitive except if chosen in the Cook Shire Award.Section 1: Cook Shire Council Award
The Cook Shire Council Award is no longer a stand-alone category. All adult art works, providing they meet the criteria of the artist being a Cook Shire resident and the piece depicting a recognizable scene or unique aspect of the Shire, are eligible to be judged for this award. The Award remains acquisitive.Framed painting or sculpture depicting a recognizable scene or unique aspect of the Cook Shire, open to Cook Shire residents only. Painting medium – any. Sculpture medium - hardwood, metal or ceramic. Size: painting, no larger than 102cm x 102cm when framed, the sculpture, no larger than 102cm height dimension.
Intermediate Awards
Please note that for the purpose of this exhibition a non- professional artist is defined as: One who is in the early stages of their careers and prefers to create solely for the joy of doing so with no expectation of financial gain.Section 2: Intermediate(non- professional) award for a Traditional painting
Traditional painting of any subject. Open. Non-acquisitive unless meets criteria and is chosen in Cook Shire Council Award. Medium - Watercolor, Oil, Acrylic or Pastel Framed or unframed (unframed work on gallery wrap canvas with painted edges).Work must be framed if entry in Cook Shire Council award is to be considered.

Section 3: Intermediate(non- professional) award for a Contemporary painting
Contemporary painting of any subject using mixed media, layered collage or textile. Open. Non-acquisitive unless meets criteria and is chosen in Cook Shire Council Award. Framed or unframed (unframed work on gallery wrap canvas with painted edges).Work must be framed if entry in Cook Shire Council award is to be considered.

Professional Awards
Please note that for the purpose of this exhibition a professional artist is defined as:One who seeks to build a reputation as a professional artist, makes regular attempts to bring his/her work to the public, secures work, commissions or consultancies on the basis of his/her professional expertise, keeps financial records, regularly participates in activities designed to promote his/her work including establishing a website and other marketing activities and achieves industry or peer recognition through published works, critical texts or media profile
Section 4: Professional award for a Traditional painting
Traditional painting of any subject. Open. Non-acquisitive unless meets criteria and is chosen in Cook Shire Council Award. Medium - Watercolor, Oil, Acrylic or Pastel Framed or unframed (unframed work on gallery wrap canvas with painted edges) Work must be framed if entry in Cook Shire Council award is to be considered.No larger than 102cm x102cm.
Section 5: Professional award for a Contemporary painting

Please note that 2 prizes will be awarded in this section – 1 for a traditional painting, 1 for a contemporary painting. Please note maximum size of workPainting by a local Indigenous artist residing in Cook, Hopevale and Wujal Wujal Shires. Any subject, any medium, non-acquisitive. No larger than 102cm x 102cm. Section 8: Endeavour Lion’sYouth Encouragement Award
Open to high school students up to the age of 18 only. Any medium, non-acquisitive. No larger than 102cm x 102cm. Framed or unframed (unframed work on gallery wrapcanvas with painted edges) Youth entries will not be judged for the Cook Shire Council Award.
